This isn’t a Political Blog. It is however a reflection of the things that interest me – and what I have discovered over the past few weeks is that I am more than interested in Politics – I am passionate about the subject. I have also engaged ‘online’ throughout the entire campaign, commenting on various blogs and Twitter, so it seems only right that I round off this subject with a short post to commemorate a truly historic moment in time.
On the political spectrum, I define myself as very slightly left-of-centre. I support social reform that cares for the vulnerable and promotes economic fairness, while I also strongly identify with policies that push for smaller Government, Private Sector growth, innovation and enterprise. For me, the Tory-LibDem Coalition could well result in the marriage of the best parts of each Manifesto and combine to create moderate and pragmatic outcomes. Taking all things into account, had there been a box on the ballot paper for an alliance such as this, it probably would have got my X.
So, I’m happy with the final result. I feel optimistic and re-energised and hope that the headline policy deals come to pass. There are areas in which I will personally be worse off – but I recognise the dire straits the economy is in, and I’m happy to pull my weight and swallow a hit on my personal finances in order to benefit the wider cause. It’s in that spirit that I choose to view the foreseeable future. I hope that tribalism and the politics of smear can be a thing of the past, and that we can move forward together.
Little bit sentimental, I know – but this is all new territory, and I really want my take on it to be as positive as possible.
