Portrait Mash-up

I’ve recently been working on a small (8″ x 10″) portrait in oil. I’ve been struggling with a few aspects of it, and so I used the iPad to paint on top of a photo of the early oil block-in. It’s helped me to work a few things out and I enjoy the digital results in their own right.

This is fantastic! I can’t believe you’ve done it on an ipad, the texture and softness of pastels is so much in the work. I really must have a go sometime. I was very impressed by the work of Nathan Fowkes, a fine artist and illustrator, who’s work ed on films such as Prince of Egypt and Shrek, he does digital paintings that are astoundingly beautiful. He’s got a blog.
Look forward to seeing the final piece. Your feed still isn’t working by the way, my Blogger viewer can’t bring up your posts so I have to make a special trip to see you. Fortunately it’s worth it.

Thank you Jen. Sean Slater got me thinking about drawing on the iPad, and it is pretty amazing what you can do with it… even before you know what you’re doing. The oil painting itself is proving to be a complete nightmare. I don’t know what the problem is, but it just isn’t coming together at all. I’m going to give it a couple more shots, then put it aside.

Great tip re Nathan Fowkes – what gorgeous work. His portraits are beautiful, and the demo post on his blog is really useful. Reminds me a bit of Robin’s style, maybe softer.

Hopefully we’ll catch up before too long – some exhibitions coming up that will be good to see. Maybe we can get something organised. I’m not sure what’s wrong with my feed – I’ll look into it and see if anything leaps out. Have you tried my rss feed address? I think it’s feed://www.brownhound.co.uk/feed/ – but I could be wrong. Now I’m at my computer less often, I’m forgetting so much!
