Little China Dog

Still life oil painting of a white china dog by Helen Davison

‘China Dog’

A little 6″ x 8″ oil sketch of a china dog figurine that I recently bought at a vintage fair. I’m not especially attracted to kitschy dust attractors as a rule… but this little dog just spoke to me (!). So, home he came and today I painted him. I put a (spent) glow-stick collar on him; I like the gentleness of the figurine mixed with a bit of party culture.

In terms of the painting, I kept things very simple. Bigger brushes, spareness of detail, lost and found edges, atmosphere.
