Gouache figure painting

December 19, 2018 · by Helen · in Materials, Painting, Watercolour

Following on from watercolour, I have also been experimenting with gouache. It is a medium that I have found to be unlike any other, with its own unique set of advantages and problems. I absolutely hated using it at first,…

Still life oil painting of a terracotta jug and clementine by Helen Davison

Giving things some time

February 22, 2017 · by Helen · in Fine Art, Materials, Still Life

Completed before Christmas, this painting was so difficult to bring to resolution, the only reason I kept it was because I persevered too long to scrap it. Firstly, I set up in a very dark corner of the studio where…

August 17, 2016 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Fine Art, Materials, Still Life

About Helen Davison Bradley

Based near Cirencester in the Cotswolds, I mainly work in oils and charcoal using time honoured techniques.
A keen advocate of the practise of drawing from life (believing it to be crucial in developing the observational skills of the artist), I feel that the interaction between artist and subject is the defining essence in the creation of a piece of art.

Brownhound? Huh?

Brownhound is the name of my web/graphic design business, which I have now stepped away from in order to concentrate on pursuing a career as a practising fine artist.
Having used the URL and email address for so long (and in honour of Sophie, the studio dog who inspired the name), I decided to stick with it as my point of contact. I'm glad you found me.
