Egon Schiele at The Courtauld Gallery
A few days ago I made it to The Courtauld Gallery in London to see their Egon Schiele exhibition of figure drawings (exhibition ends 18th January 2015).
First of all, I know Schiele is not to everyone’s taste, and indeed many of the drawings on display are incredibly explicit in nature and so I make my recommendation of this exhibition with that firmly highlighted. But…. wow! I just loved this show.
The draughtsmanship has a quality of line and composition that is intensely powerful, portraying an expression of physicality and emotion that is both base and beautiful. This show felt radical and modern and it really inspired me. Art friends, if you’re not easily offended, I urge you to go!
Further online reading can be found on Artsy’s Egon Schiele page. Very much worth a visit, there is a brief biography along with over 25 of his works, exclusive articles, as well as up-to-date Schiele exhibition listings. The page also includes related artist & category tags, plus suggested contemporary artists, allowing viewers to continue exploring.
