Learning to Quit While You’re Ahead

A post that could alternatively be titled ‘Before I F***ed It Up’, this little portrait experiment had something good going on, lost it, got it back, then was butchered beyond repair as I tried to add the merest hint of colour where the lips meet… leading to a chain reaction of bad decisions.

I can’t bear to put the final stages of the portrait online, so here it is at a point where it had good characterisation, interesting brushwork and a subtle, understated palette.
