Broken colour, islands of paint

Nude oil painting by Helen Davison

‘Seated Nude, a study’, 45cm x 35cm oil on gessoed card

Another study on the gesso panels from Zecchi. The surface and absorbency of these panels definitely facilitates a different way of laying down paint. Mainly I find that edges fuse differently, and rather than force them to blend I decided to make a feature of broken brushwork, leaving islands of colour accents and simplified shapes. Here are some details… now I just need better photographs.
