Still life oil painting of daisies in a vase

Daisies’ Last Gasp

June 18, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Painting, Still Life

This is a quick sketch of the daisies I painted earlier in the week (whose longevity I am amazed by). The length of time I spent on it aside, some days I really feel that I have lost any painting…

Still life oil painting of old bottles

Old Bottles

June 14, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Painting, Still Life

It was getting dark by the time I was ready to photograph this sketch of old bottles. The fading light has resulted in a less than sharp image to post. When painting this, I was mindful of suggesting the subject…

Painting of a peeled satsuma

A State of Undress

June 12, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Painting, Still Life

Today’s painting was again quickly completed. It has lead to me considering more about the mark making of brushes and paint, and I really enjoyed more than a little experimentation. Paint handling is like handwriting, and I believe it evolves…

Painting of a Farrow & Ball Sample Pot

Paint Pot

June 11, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Painting, Still Life

OK, this isn’t brilliant, but like all of these sketches something is learned. The paintings from this week have all been done in around an hour. I’m not practised enough at working so quickly, and an object such as this…

Painting of a bulldog paper weight on a book

Bulldog

June 10, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Painting, Still Life

I haven’t been painting at all for a couple of weeks. Here’s a quick alla prima sketch of some large daisies from the garden to get things going again. I’ve been thinking that committing to a painting a day, for…

About Helen Davison Bradley

Based near Cirencester in the Cotswolds, I mainly work in oils and charcoal using time honoured techniques.
A keen advocate of the practise of drawing from life (believing it to be crucial in developing the observational skills of the artist), I feel that the interaction between artist and subject is the defining essence in the creation of a piece of art.

Brownhound? Huh?

Brownhound is the name of my web/graphic design business, which I have now stepped away from in order to concentrate on pursuing a career as a practising fine artist.
Having used the URL and email address for so long (and in honour of Sophie, the studio dog who inspired the name), I decided to stick with it as my point of contact. I'm glad you found me.
