Bulldog

Painting of a bulldog paper weight on a book

‘Bulldog and Book’. Oil on gessoed card, 8″ x 6″

Here’s one you might need some help to identify… it’s a strange bronze paperweight in the form of the head of a bulldog wearing a bowler hat. I placed it on a copy of John Berger’s ‘Ways of Seeing’, a book I am now reminded that I didn’t hand back when I left school. I think I’d like to read it again.

It’s a very quick sketch as I was determined to fit in a painting between appointments today. I listened to Roxy Music’s eponymous first album, as I am currently obsessed with the song “If There is Something”, and here is the result. Very loose, very limited palette (raw and burnt umbers, ochre, ivory black, white and a touch of cobalt blue).
