Gouache painting of the view towards Piccadilly at night by Helen Davison

Piccadilly Nocturne

February 21, 2019 · by Helen · in Landscape, Painting, Watercolour

I’ve been doing lots of sketching and painting since the New Year, so have quite a lot to organise and get online. In the meantime, here’s another gouache practise sketch that I painted a few weeks ago from a sketch…

Gouache painting of Clifton Suspension Bridge by Helen Davison

Clifton Suspension Bridge

January 10, 2019 · by Helen · in Drawing, Landscape, Painting, Watercolour

I’m still playing around with gouache painting. It’s both incredibly difficult, but also really energising to be learning something new. To keep things a little more controllable I’m allowing myself some time away from life work and am experimenting with…

Watercolour painting of flooded field at sunset by Helen Davison

Experiments with Watercolour

November 5, 2018 · by Helen · in Landscape, Painting, Watercolour

Although my output over the last few months has been pretty sparse (to say the least), I have been thinking a lot about different mediums and more experimentation. With this in mind I bought a starter set of watercolours and…

Snowy landscape painting by Helen Davison

Catching the Snow

March 6, 2018 · by Helen · in Landscape, Painting

Here’s a quick post showing the plein air paintings I completed during the very short burst of cold weather we’ve recently experienced. These mark the first time in many, many months that I’ve ventured outside to paint. I find it…

Know yourself, know your colours

August 15, 2016 · by Helen · in Inspiration, Landscape, Painting, Rambles

Since finishing the school year at Sarum Studio at the end of June, things have been very quiet for me over the summer. Unfortunately there has been no getaway on the cards for us as we sadly have another sick…

Tate Britain Inspiration

January 30, 2014 · by Helen · in Inspiration, Landscape, Painting, Portraiture

Finding myself in London one afternoon last week, I decided to visit Tate Britain for a quiet wander. With nothing specific to see, I decided to look around some of the ‘BP Walk through British Art’ galleries. When a particular…

Pintar Rapido, Chelsea 2013

July 18, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Landscape, Painting

This is a rather belated post about Pintar Rapido, a plein air art event that I took part in last weekend. You can read about it in more detail on the accompanying website. In a nutshell though, any artist interested…

Slad Valley landscape painting

Slad Valley, Laurie Lee Country

July 11, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Landscape, Painting

I have been wanting to paint some of the stunning views across the Slad Valley in Gloucestershire for some time. This is my first attempt. Famous as Laurie Lee country, and the setting for his novel ‘Cider With Rosie’, Slad…

Landscape painting Coln St Aldwyns

Long Shadows, Coln St Aldwyns

July 9, 2013 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Landscape, Painting

Another evening painting of a Gloucestershire village; Coln St Aldwyns. I left it a little too late to get out this evening, and as a result was very rushed in trying to get the paint down and resolve the composition….

About Helen Davison Bradley

Based near Cirencester in the Cotswolds, I mainly work in oils and charcoal using time honoured techniques.
A keen advocate of the practise of drawing from life (believing it to be crucial in developing the observational skills of the artist), I feel that the interaction between artist and subject is the defining essence in the creation of a piece of art.

Brownhound? Huh?

Brownhound is the name of my web/graphic design business, which I have now stepped away from in order to concentrate on pursuing a career as a practising fine artist.
Having used the URL and email address for so long (and in honour of Sophie, the studio dog who inspired the name), I decided to stick with it as my point of contact. I'm glad you found me.
