2020 update #1

June 21, 2020 · by Helen · in Exhibitions, Fine Art, Inspiration, Life Studies, Painting, Portraiture, Rambles, Still Life

I have been neglecting my website terribly this year. I have no excuses for this other than being busy and focussed on making new work. Although things have been very far from normal across the globe for the last few…

Gouache Project, page one

December 10, 2019 · by Helen · in Fine Art, Painting, Still Life, Watercolour

I have really neglected my website this year, and have quite a sizeable backlog of work to post. I’ve been so focussed on painting that I struggle to find time for anything else. In many ways that’s a good thing,…

Cosmos

March 13, 2019 · by Helen · in Daily Painting, Painting, Still Life

I have finally organised my photos and put them onto my computer, so I can hopefully catch up with uploading the bits and pieces that I’ve been experimenting with over the last few months. To get started, here’s a little…

Gouache painting of Clifton Suspension Bridge by Helen Davison

Clifton Suspension Bridge

January 10, 2019 · by Helen · in Drawing, Landscape, Painting, Watercolour

I’m still playing around with gouache painting. It’s both incredibly difficult, but also really energising to be learning something new. To keep things a little more controllable I’m allowing myself some time away from life work and am experimenting with…

Gouache Portrait

December 29, 2018 · by Helen · in Fine Art, Painting, Portraiture, Watercolour

A really enjoyable little project in gouache, undertaken back in August. I used a limited palette of yellow ochre, venetian red, ivory black, cobalt blue and burnt umber. I’m really pleased with the result. It’s a good likeness and the…

Gouache figure painting

December 19, 2018 · by Helen · in Materials, Painting, Watercolour

Following on from watercolour, I have also been experimenting with gouache. It is a medium that I have found to be unlike any other, with its own unique set of advantages and problems. I absolutely hated using it at first,…

Watercolour painting of an interior with lamp by Helen Davison

Illuminated Interior

November 18, 2018 · by Helen · in Painting, Still Life, Watercolour

A little watercolour interior. This is a lamp we bought after Nelly accidentally smashed its predecessor (which was something a lot more tasteful). It’s a pretty big table lamp, around 3′ high I would guess, and makes me think of…

Experiments with Watercolour

November 5, 2018 · by Helen · in Landscape, Painting, Watercolour

Although my output over the last few months has been pretty sparse (to say the least), I have been thinking a lot about different mediums and more experimentation. With this in mind I bought a starter set of watercolours and…

About Helen Davison Bradley

Based near Cirencester in the Cotswolds, I mainly work in oils and charcoal using time honoured techniques.
A keen advocate of the practise of drawing from life (believing it to be crucial in developing the observational skills of the artist), I feel that the interaction between artist and subject is the defining essence in the creation of a piece of art.

Brownhound? Huh?

Brownhound is the name of my web/graphic design business, which I have now stepped away from in order to concentrate on pursuing a career as a practising fine artist.
Having used the URL and email address for so long (and in honour of Sophie, the studio dog who inspired the name), I decided to stick with it as my point of contact. I'm glad you found me.
